In May 2015, Farm to Feet worked with Calleva Outdoor Adventures to sponsor the Girls on Track Adventure Race. The word “Calleva” means “where the paths cross” and they have a mission to get people of all ages outside. They’ve been promoting leadership and teamwork for nearly twenty years.
This year, Montgomery County middle school girls attended a ten week program, meeting twice a week, to prepare for the Girls on Track Adventure Race. As a sponsor, the girls each received a new pair of socks, part of our Blue Ridge Running Series, to prepare them for the race.
The girls were split into partners and given compasses and a map with checkpoints for the race. Ten of these checkpoints were optional, but six were mandatory. The girls had to find their way to each checkpoint using their map and compass and were allowed to use different modes of transportation. They could bike, canoe, or go on foot while following the C&O canal, Potomac River, and wooded park. You can read more about the event on Calleva’s Blog.
Later this summer, we will also be a sponsor for the upcoming Calleva Race on August 9th as well. The race is an all day event and takes place at the Calleva Farm in Poolesville, MD. There will be two categories of runners: EXPERT and SPORT, depending on your experience. Participants will have up to ten hours to complete the race and we wish all participants good luck! If you are interested in participating, you can find details on the event here.
